Cavity and Tooth Decay Treatments in Bakersfield

Restore your oral health and protect your teeth with dental cleaning, cavity fillings, and tooth decay treatment at Salin Dentistry

A cavity is a permanently damaged area in a tooth caused by poor dental hygiene, bacteria, and keeping a diet of sugary foods or drinks. Left untreated, tooth decay and worsening dental health lead to damage to your teeth and enamel. Composite fillings are a routine dental procedure, usually completed in one appointment. After numbing the gums surrounding the tooth before repair, Dr. Dimitri Salin will remove the decayed part of the tooth to restore it fully. It is possible to save a lot more of the tooth with composite and porcelain fillings than older amalgam fillings allowed. Once a space is created for the new filling, it will be cleaned and shaped before adding its filling. Then the composite will be inserted, compacted, and polished. The composite is cured by shining a specialized light on the new filling, restoring dental health.

Your newly filled tooth may initially experience some sensitivity to hot and cold, but this is normal and will quickly pass. If tooth decay reaches too deep, more extensive treatments like a root canal or tooth extraction may be the only option. If you think you may have tooth decay, this can worsen oral health and lead to gingivitis or periodontal disease. Don’t wait until you need emergency care and are in significant pain. Make an appointment today and see us for a comprehensive consultation, and we will be glad to cover all of your restoration options with you.

Treat Cavities Urgently and Avoid Severe Tooth Decay

You can avoid timely and expensive treatments by visiting us for all your dental cavity fillings

When you neglect to treat cavities, caries (tooth decay) will gradually progress. The tooth most likely becomes sensitive to hot and cold. Gradually, the nerve will die, and the cheek will start to swell. A pus pocket will form that empties to void the dead bacteria and pulp matter. Untreated tooth decay can lead to the need for root canals, crowns, extractions, dental implants, dental bridges, or cosmetic dentures. In these cases, our expert dentist can help you treat and navigate the advanced results of tooth decay.

Our team is skilled and equipped to care for your dental needs, no matter how simple or complex! For children, ask our family dentist about fluoride and dental sealants, a protective coating for their teeth. You’ll also want to visit our family dentistry clinic regularly for professional cleanings and oral exams. For most, a cleaning is recommended every six months. After your routine cleanings and treatments, we help you develop a plan to maintain your dental health and oral hygiene.

Tips to help prevent tooth decay include:
  • Brushing twice a day with a good toothpaste.
  • Flossing between your teeth daily.
  • Eating nutritious and balanced meals.
  • Limiting sugar and snacking.
